Anonymous asked: I wanna start gettting into sfx maeup(i have for a while now) but i can seem to find a class or anything in my local area(Jersey needs to step up its game) is there anything terms wise and supplies wise i need to know or you feel i should know?

I’m self taught so I’ve never taken a class, I just started out very simply with beauty makeup and youtube videos. I feel like you should know the basics of beauty makeup as a base before you get into prosthetics. As you move on, once you get a basic idea of how to use spirit gum and liquid latex, everything else will come together. Fabrication also plays a big role, too.

In my opinion, spirit gum reallly sucks! You can go to smooth-on.com and they sell pretty much anything you can imagine! I use skin-tite when it comes to skin save adhesives, or you can just purchase a skin safe liquid latex (able to apply it straight to the skin). You can also buy really good silicone there for molds (not safe to apply directly to the skin) and it’s called dragon skin. In terms of beauty makeup, you can use alconeco.com which has a vast amount of beauty supplies as well as special effects products, but it mostly focuses on makeup, but it’s really good for anything makeup-y (colour palettes and such). Hope this helped as well!

  5. Working on the set of “Essential Realism” and here’s some of the stuff we created! Had the chance to work with a makeup artist, Ashely, and met some amazing people! Not to mention the fake blood we used was very realistic! Which makes me happy hehehe.

Finally made a cut with my liquid latex, for a first try it’s pretty good!

  8. Trying out something new I’ve never done before! Making my own gelatin (using household materials) and it sets incredibly fast! I wanted to make it more of a cut but since it set so fast it created rounded edges and so I just went with it. I created this in about ten minutes (including the paint job).
